Makro is a well known chain of retail outlets in South Africa selling food stuffs, various household items, electrical appliances and office equipment.
A Programme was carried out by Knox D’Arcy consultants targeting a reduction in stock levels; improved customer service to drive top-line growth; right-sizing the stores crewing using a new resource requirement system which correlated staff required to activity levels.
This led to increased utilisation levels at slack times and improved service levels during peak times by ensuring the right staff were available.
A training programme was delivered focused on creating a much more profit driven attitude and culture from the junior and middle management which supported the system and structural changes.
The results were impressive with savings targets exceeded in every category.
